Webster Technique - Your Key To A Healthy Pregnancy Journey

Both Dr. Shelby and Dr. David are Webster Certified through the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). The Webster Certification has become a well-recognized and trusted name with both pregnant mothers and birth providers. The ICPA defines the method as: “The Webster technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of subluxation and/or SI joint dysfunction. In so doing, neuro-biomechanical function in the sacral/pelvic region is improved.”

  • They diligently work hard to show evidence-based practices within the chiropractic and medical community. They published the paper in The Journal of Pediatric, Maternal, and Family Health.

  • That paper states: ‘Sacral subluxation may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of sacral subluxation may have a positive effect on all of these causes of dystocia.’

  • The uterus is physically attached to the pelvis and sacrum by the utero-sacral ligaments behind the uterus, the round ligaments in front, and the broad ligament on each side. During pregnancy, the increased physical loads on the body and the presence of a hormone called relaxin in the soft tissues; make it easy for the sacrum and pelvic bones to shift and become misaligned/subluxated. The ligaments may be pulled and create undue tension in the uterus. This uterine tension may decrease the ability of the baby to move into a more desirable position for birth (head down). The Webster chiropractic adjustment begins the process of realigning the sacrum, which may relieve the pull that creates the tension in the uterus. Once that tension is removed, your baby may be free to follow its instincts and assume its best possible position for birth.

  • Once free of pelvic and sacral misalignments/subluxations, the nervous system function can be significantly enhanced and the birth canal’s diameter may be maximized, thus increasing your chances for an easier labor. It is recommended to start chiropractic care early in your pregnancy in order to achieve the best results. Having your pelvis aligned as the baby continues to grow will help achieve the goal of a comfortable pregnancy. Some mothers will wait until the last month of their pregnancy to make sure everything is in alignment. There is no such thing as last minute, but it does help to start as soon as possible!
